Nowell Sing We Clear is a quartet of traditional singers who perform timeless songs in a lively celebration of folk music from the English-speaking world. Through song and pageantry, Nowell Sing We Clear presents traditions of the British Isles and North America that celebrate the Winter Solstice, Christmas, and the turning of the New Year. Nowell Sing We Clear performances feature intricate harmonies and instrumental accompaniment, ballads and festive tunes, stories, antics, and traditional Mummers’ plays.
This quartet of scholar-musicians has been collecting, performing, recording, and publishing British and North American traditional music together for well over three decades. Based in southern Vermont, they are a regular and favorite part of winter celebrations throughout the Eastern United States. John Roberts and Tony Barrand are widely known for their lively presentations of English folk songs at festivals, concerts, and colleges throughout the United States, Canada, and their native England. Fred Breunig and Andy Davis are much in demand throughout New England as teachers, dance callers, and musicians. …
